Claim that 56 MPs were 'under investigation' for sexual misconduct: official correction the same day

Investigation

On 27 April 2022, during a Commons debate, Lucas repeated a press report by saying that 56 MPs were 'under investigation' for sexual misconduct. She subsequently arranged an official correction to her contribution, clarifying that the Sunday Times had reported 56 MPs 'facing claims'. The correction preserves the distinction between allegations, complaints and formal investigations.

Electoral fundraiser and Commons tour: inadvertent breach of parliamentary rules, rectified in 2020

Civil / administrative proceedings

During her 2019 fundraising campaign, a reward offered to donors included a tour of Parliament led by Lucas. The rules prohibit the use of parliamentary premises for commercial or fundraising purposes. The Commissioner considered the breach inadvertent and suitable for rectification; Lucas accepted the finding and apologised, while the Green Party returned the corresponding sums. A second issue concerning the signing of the Order Paper was not upheld as a breach.

Comparison between climate change denial and Holocaust denial: apology in 2019

No legal proceedings

All-White women's emergency anti-no-deal Brexit cabinet proposal: criticism and apology

No legal proceedings

In a letter to ten female political figures, Lucas proposed forming a temporary unity government to prevent a no-deal Brexit and organise another vote. The original selection, consisting entirely of White women, was immediately criticised for its lack of diversity. Lucas accepted the criticism, apologised and subsequently named BAME figures who should have been included.

Balcombe anti-fracking protest: arrest and prosecution, followed by acquittal on all charges

Acquitted / conviction overturned — against a third party

Protagonist not prosecuted — these proceedings are not counted in their formal charges or convictions.

Caroline Lucas participated in a protest outside Cuadrilla's Balcombe drilling site on 19 August 2013. She was arrested with other activists and subsequently tried at Brighton Magistrates' Court. On 17 April 2014, she and four co-defendants were acquitted of all charges. The proceedings must be retained alongside their favourable outcome to avoid treating an arrest as guilt.

2013 Brighton refuse dispute: support for striking workers against Green-led council

No legal proceedings

Pay restructuring at Brighton and Hove council led to a bitter dispute with Cityclean workers. Lucas supported the strikers and criticised the option of imposing changes unilaterally, while the local Green administration defended its obligation to reform pay. Her responsibility for the council's decision was indirect: the event is retained as a party consistency and governance controversy, not a personal executive decision.
