Myanmar: allegations of labour rights abuses at a supplier linked to Mango and withdrawal from the country

No legal proceedings

In 2022, workers at a Myanmar factory described as a supplier to several brands, including Mango, alleged compulsory overtime, denial of leave, excessive production targets, unfair dismissals and verbal abuse. Mango subsequently explained that it had removed Myanmar from its authorised sourcing markets after concluding that it could not adequately guarantee working conditions and supplier safety there.

Greenpeace accuses "Mango Committed" collection of greenwashing

No legal proceedings

On the tenth anniversary of Rana Plaza, Greenpeace analysed collections marketed as more sustainable by several fashion retailers and included "Mango Committed" among the labels it considered examples of greenwashing. The NGO argued that the promises attached to these collections were insufficient to address the structural impacts of fast fashion.

Rana Plaza: disputed link to a workshop preparing Mango samples and change of position on compensation

No legal proceedings

Following the Rana Plaza collapse in Bangladesh, Mango labels were found and the question of the brand's connection with a factory in the building sparked controversy. Mango maintained that the arrangement involved only a test order or samples for which production had not begun. Workers and NGOs challenged that account. In 2014, Mango agreed to contribute to the victims' compensation fund.

IEF proposals for social and economic reform: civil servants, pensions, co-payments and employment law

No legal proceedings

As president of the Instituto de la Empresa Familiar, Isak Andic provoked strong reactions by proposing, among other measures, that new civil servants should have employment security comparable to the private sector, advocating the calculation of pensions over an entire working life and a higher retirement age, and calling for labour market reforms and more efficient healthcare funding potentially including income-based co-payments.
