I. Documented controversies

01

1955

1955: Secures removal of reference to Austrian co-responsibility from State Treaty preamble

No legal proceedings

As foreign minister, Figl succeeded in removing from the State Treaty's preamble a reference to Austria's co-responsibility in the Second World War. The Austrian Parliament now notes that this deletion subsequently facilitated refusal or delay in confronting Austria's role in Nazism.
