Intimate photograph taken and shared without consent in Sweden: fine, request to withdraw from draft and sporting sanctions

Conviction

At the age of 17 in Sweden, Mailloux took an intimate photograph of a woman during consensual sexual activity without her consent and shared it with teammates alongside identifying information. He was fined in Sweden for offences relating to offensive photography/invasion of privacy and defamation. Before the 2021 draft, he asked NHL teams not to select him, but Montreal chose him 31st, triggering considerable controversy. The OHL subsequently suspended him indefinitely before reinstating him following a personal development programme; the NHL restored his eligibility in 2023.
