Arrest and charges of attempted rape/coercive behaviour/assault, then all charges dropped before trial

Case dismissed / dropped

Greenwood is arrested in January 2022 following online publication of material giving rise to allegations. Manchester United suspends him. In October 2022, he is charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. On 2 February 2023, the Crown Prosecution Service drops all charges: the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence mean there is no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. Nike had meanwhile ended its sponsorship and EA had removed him from certain versions of FIFA 22.
