Controversy over absence of formal minutes for K-Football Innovation Committee co-chaired by Park

No legal proceedings

In July 2026, the K-Football Innovation Committee co-chaired by Park Ji-sung was criticised after indicating that no formal minutes had been produced for its first meetings, only summaries. The attendance of senior public officials prompted questions about record-keeping obligations and the transparency of a body tasked with reforming Korean football.

Sporting responsibility questioned at Jeonbuk following appointment of Dan Petrescu and club's worst modern season

No legal proceedings

After becoming technical director of Jeonbuk Hyundai in 2022, Park oversaw matters including player assessment and recruitment. He led the appointment of coach Dan Petrescu in 2023. Following Petrescu's resignation in April 2024 and a season in which Jeonbuk narrowly avoided relegation and recorded its worst league placing in years, the South Korean press directly questioned Park's responsibility for recruitment decisions, squad composition and the club's sporting trajectory.

Supporters' chant based on dog-meat stereotype and Park's public request for it to stop

No legal proceedings

During Park Ji-sung's years at Manchester United, supporters sang a chant in his honour referring to the stereotype that Koreans eat dog meat. In 2021, after hearing the chant repeated following Hwang Hee-chan's arrival at Wolverhampton, Park publicly asked supporters to stop using it, explaining that it had become a racial insult and that he himself had felt uncomfortable.
