Return to national politics in 2025 after stating in 2024 that she no longer envisaged standing nationally

No legal proceedings

Following her defeat in the July 2024 Tokyo gubernatorial election, Renho had said she no longer envisaged standing for national office and added that an immediate return would give the impression of being a "migratory bird". In 2025, however, she agreed to stand on the national proportional representation list for the Upper House under the CDP banner, triggering accusations of inconsistency.
