easyfundraising: High Court setback, partially successful trademark appeal but infringement claim still unsuccessful, followed by new Irish case

Civil / administrative proceedings

The High Court dismissed various easyGroup trademark infringement and passing-off claims and partially upheld counterclaims. In July 2025, the Court of Appeal ruled in easyGroup's favour on certain aspects of trademark revocation and use, but rejected its infringement claims. In 2026, a group company brought a new Irish action concerning easyfundraising.ie and EU trademarks. The successive proceedings fuel debate over the litigation strategy for protecting the 'easy' prefix.

Easy Life band: trademark lawsuit leads music group to abandon its name

Civil / administrative proceedings

The proceedings prompted public debate over the aggressiveness of the strategy for defending the 'easy' family of trademarks. The band explained that it could not afford to fight the case and stopped using the name. The matter does not itself constitute a judicial finding of abuse of legal rights by Stelios.

Covid-19: attempt to cancel Airbus order and remove four easyJet directors

No legal proceedings

During the Covid crisis, Stelios believed the order for 107 aircraft threatened the airline's financial survival. He offered a £5 million reward to whistleblowers and made strong accusations against certain executives. The board rejected his insinuations and defended the contracts. Resolutions seeking to remove the chairman, chief executive and two other directors were decisively rejected, with more than 99 % of independent shareholders supporting the board according to reports.

Netflix: trademark infringement action against series « Easy »

No legal proceedings

Stelios's company argued that Netflix was improperly benefiting from the 'easy' family of trademarks. Netflix responded that viewers could easily distinguish a television series from an airline or the group's other activities. The available sources do not establish that a court subsequently found trademark infringement.

easyHotel: founding shareholder's opposition to directors' remuneration

No legal proceedings

Continuing his campaigns against high remuneration, Stelios announced that he would vote against remuneration arrangements at easyHotel. The episode illustrates his recurring confrontation with the boards of 'easy' companies. This was a governance disagreement between the founding shareholder and the board, with no finding of legal wrongdoing.

Fastjet: demands for executive dismissals and threat to 'easy' brand licence

No legal proceedings

As a shareholder and brand licensor, Stelios accused Fastjet's management of excessive spending and poor cash management, demanded information and called for executives' removal. Fastjet disputed some claims, sought legal advice and saw Stelios's representative leave the board. No court has established in these sources that Stelios committed wrongdoing.

easyJet: repeated campaigns against executive remuneration and the 'gravy train'

No legal proceedings

He challenged, in particular, Andy Harrison's severance package and incentive plans that he considered excessive, using his shareholder influence to force votes and denounce a 'gravy train'. Some investors shared certain criticisms, but resolutions supporting management ultimately received broad backing during key episodes. The controversy concerns shareholder governance, not an offence.

easyJet: legal battle over trademark licence, growth and ancillary revenue

Civil / administrative proceedings

Stelios argued that easyJet was exceeding the freedom permitted by the licensing agreements, particularly regarding expansion, ancillary revenue and use of the brand. The dispute reached the High Court before a settlement: easyJet obtained long-term trademark rights in exchange for royalties, while Stelios relinquished certain historic governance rights. The case ended in settlement, without any conviction for fraud or other criminal wrongdoing.

easyArt: easyGroup drops trademark action after highly publicised dispute

Civil / administrative proceedings

The dispute pitted Stelios's 'easy' brand empire against Easyart.com. After a costly battle portrayed by the defence as a David-and-Goliath confrontation, easyGroup withdrew its action. The withdrawal does not constitute a judgment finding that the claim was abusive or a substantive ruling on infringement.
