Assault charge involving Lewis Burton: not-guilty plea and no trial before her death
Following the incident at her home on 12 December 2019, Flack was charged with assault by beating. She pleaded not guilty on 23 December, and a trial was scheduled for 4 March 2020. Lewis Burton did not support the prosecution and said he did not consider himself a victim, but the CPS maintained that there was sufficient evidence at the time to proceed without his support. Flack stepped down from Love Island on 17 December 2019 to avoid distracting attention from the series. She died in February 2020 before any trial. The coroner subsequently linked her suicide to the certainty of prosecution and anticipated media pressure; in 2025, the CPS again defended its decision to prosecute.
