Inheritance dispute over Atlı Köşk: Demir Sabancı named among defendant heirs

Civil / administrative proceedings

In the inheritance dispute between Sevilay Sabancı Çınar and several family members concerning Atlı Köşk and inheritance rights, Demir Sabancı was named among the defendants and heirs. The 2019 judgment reported by the press ordered Güler Sabancı and four of her siblings to pay compensation, but the sources examined do not establish a separate personal damages award against Demir.

WIPO domain name dispute over "Sabancı" between Sedesco and Sabancı Holding, won by Demir Sabancı's company

Allegations

Sabancı Holding initiated UDRP proceedings against Sedesco, a company founded and managed by Demir Sabancı, seeking the transfer of several domain names containing "Sabancı". The WIPO panel recognised similarity with the group's trademarks but held that Sedesco had demonstrated good-faith business preparations and a legitimate interest, and dismissed the complaint on 8 May 2013.

2004-2011

Reported breakdown in family governance followed by gradual exit from Sabancı shareholdings

No legal proceedings

Following Sakıp Sabancı's death, the Turkish business press reported family disagreements and Demir Sabancı's decision in 2004 to sell his stake in Sabancı Holding. In 2005, he confirmed the sale of several percentage points of equity for approximately 250 million dollars, then continued withdrawing from the family business ecosystem with a major sale of Akbank shares in 2011. Together, these events form one core episode of separation and gradual exit.
