During promotion of Anyone but You, the conspicuous public chemistry between Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney fuelled affair rumours while Powell was still in a relationship with Gigi Paris. Powell and Sweeney subsequently acknowledged allowing this ambiguity to persist and partly exploiting it to promote the film. In 2025, Paris publicly described the period as humiliating and believed her relationship had been sacrificed for a promotional strategy.

On a podcast, Powell recounted as true a story claiming that a friend of his sister had discovered that a man she met on a dating app was potentially preparing victims to be eaten. The account went viral before being linked to an old urban legend and debunked. Powell subsequently publicly acknowledged the false alarm.
