2023–2025: denounces political appropriation of her testimony by Britain First and other far-right movements

No legal proceedings

Archer recounted that after publication of her book, Britain First distributed leaflets in Telford using its cover and quotations from her account in ways she considered distorted to support an anti-immigration message. She explained that she subsequently found herself caught between competing political camps and saw her experiences used to promote narratives she rejected.

January 2025: defends Jess Phillips following Elon Musk's attacks and accuses others of 'weaponising' survivors' suffering

No legal proceedings

Archer, Joanne Phillips, Scarlett Jones and other women signed a public letter supporting minister Jess Phillips after Elon Musk attacked her in exceptionally hostile terms during the grooming gangs debate. The letter criticised certain actors for using survivors' pain for political purposes and defended Phillips's previous work with victims.

June 2025: calls for national inquiry genuinely shaped by survivors

No legal proceedings

Following the announcement of a new national inquiry into organised sexual exploitation, Archer and Scarlett Jones called for the party-political conflict over grooming gangs to end and for survivors to have a genuine role in designing the inquiry. Archer emphasised the importance of retaining the local approach and the need for a consistent definition of child sexual exploitation.

June 2025: challenges ethnic generalisations and faces renewed online attacks against her testimony

No legal proceedings

In the debate over perpetrators' ethnicity, Archer explained that Pakistani men had participated in grooming her but that, in her experience, the majority of men who subsequently bought and raped her were Chinese. She called for better data while rejecting stereotypes reducing perpetrators or victims to one group. She also said she had stopped using social media after threats and extreme accusations, including that she was a fake survivor, a 'paedophile enabler' or a supporter of grooming gangs.

2022–2024: works as 'lived experience consultee' to implement recommendations

No legal proceedings

Following the report, Archer, Scarlett Jones and Joanne Phillips worked with Telford & Wrekin Council as lived experience consultees to co-design and challenge implementation of recommendations. Official council reports expressly thanked them for their contributions. In 2024, the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner indicated that survivors' work had contributed to a substantial increase in identification of exploited children in the borough.

2018–2022: participation in independent Telford inquiry and publication of findings

Investigation

Archer participated in the process leading to the Independent Inquiry into Telford Child Sexual Exploitation and testified publicly when the report was published. The inquiry found that exploitation had flourished for decades, that institutions knew about the problem and that children had been blamed or treated as consenting rather than protected.

2018: campaign and petition for independent Telford-specific inquiry

Investigation

Following revelations by the Sunday Mirror, Archer launched a petition calling for an independent inquiry specifically into Telford. It attracted more than 50,000 supporters. At the time, the figure of approximately 1,000 victims repeated in the campaign and press was challenged by some police officials as sensationalist. Public pressure nevertheless led the council to accept an independent inquiry; Theresa May publicly praised the roles of Archer and journalist Geraldine McKelvie.

2016: publishes I Never Gave My Consent under pseudonym and enters public debate

No legal proceedings

In 2016, Archer published I Never Gave My Consent: A Schoolgirl's Life Inside the Telford Sex Ring under a pseudonym. The book recounts her exploitation and institutional failures. Adolescence: grooming, rape, trafficking and institutional failures in Telford

Investigation

Using the pseudonym Holly Archer, she recounted being targeted from age 14, then raped, threatened and trafficked across Shropshire and the West Midlands. She described repeated contact with police, social services and mental health services without effective protection. The independent Telford inquiry published in 2022 confirmed decades of systemic institutional failures and exploitation affecting a very large number of children.
