2026: Al-Ittihad–Fenerbahçe transfer blocked then completed following administrative dispute
No legal proceedings
Kanté's move from Al-Ittihad to Fenerbahçe initially appeared in jeopardy after the Turkish club accused Al-Ittihad of an error in FIFA's transfer matching system. The registration was ultimately regularised, and Kanté signed for Fenerbahçe the following day.
2017–2021: disputes involving associates, alleged threats and litigation with former image rights agent
Allegations
Kanté became caught up in a dispute between agents and advisers over commissions, image rights and his transfer to Chelsea. Mediapart documented alleged pressure and threats in 2017. In 2019, Kanté filed a complaint against his former image rights agent Nouari Khiari, notably for fraud and breach of trust; an investigation opened. Khiari subsequently brought civil proceedings seeking approximately €3.8 million. Kanté's criminal complaint was ultimately closed without further action because the elements of an offence were considered insufficiently established.
Football Leaks: Jersey structure established, then offshore arrangement rejected
No legal proceedings
Football Leaks revealed the establishment of NK Promotions in Jersey and a proposal to channel part of Kanté's income through image rights to reduce tax liabilities. After initially agreeing in principle to certain elements, Kanté ultimately refused to have income paid in Jersey and requested an ordinary UK tax arrangement.
