Preventive whole-body MRI: recommended despite lack of evidence of screening benefit in asymptomatic people

No legal proceedings

Attia uses and recommends preventive whole-body MRI scans for certain patients to detect cancers early. The American College of Radiology states that there is insufficient evidence to recommend such screening in asymptomatic people without risk factors and warns of false positives, unnecessary examinations and costs. On '60 Minutes', the practice was explicitly described as controversial.

Off-label rapamycin for longevity: personal use, adverse effects and first negative exercise trial

No legal proceedings

Attia and some of his patients have used rapamycin, an immunosuppressant authorised notably for transplantation, for longevity purposes based mainly on animal data. He temporarily stopped his own treatment after developing mouth ulcers. In 2026, he commented on an initial randomised trial combining rapamycin and exercise, which did not improve functional gains and even appeared to attenuate them slightly.

AG1: investment, promotion and advisory role with disclosure sometimes considered insufficient

No legal proceedings

Attia became an investor in AG1/Athletic Greens in 2021 and subsequently a scientific adviser, while promoting the product. Bloomberg noted that he had previously built his podcast business model around avoiding advertising-related conflicts, but had notably recommended AG1 during an appearance with Joe Rogan without mentioning his investment. Other appearances, by contrast, included explicit disclosure.

Relationship with Jeffrey Epstein: hundreds of exchanges, medical advice and departures from CBS News and David Protein

Protagonist is the victim

Protagonist is the victim — these proceedings are not counted in their formal charges or convictions.

The release of Epstein files by the US Department of Justice in 2026 revealed numerous documents and emails mentioning Peter Attia, showing a personal and medical relationship maintained for several years after Epstein's conviction in Florida. Some messages contained crude sexual remarks. The revelations led Attia to leave his contributor position at CBS News and his role as chief scientific officer at David Protein.

Oura: lawsuit over share options, followed by counterclaim drawing notably on Epstein relationship

Civil / administrative proceedings

Attia sued Oura in 2023, claiming that a 2017 agreement entitled him to 20 000 shares or options for his advisory work. Oura maintains that the award never received the required board approval. In 2026, following the Epstein revelations, Oura added that the undisclosed relationship with Epstein would have been materially significant and is seeking to invalidate the rights claimed and obtain damages.

Very high protein recommendations and financial ties with companies in the sector

No legal proceedings

In 'Outlive' and his public appearances, Attia criticises the recommended dietary allowance for protein and advises many active adults to consume amounts approaching three times the federal recommendation. The New York Times noted that he also advises or invests in several companies connected with high-protein foods. Nutrition researchers interviewed considered that the available evidence did not justify such levels for most people.

NuSI: $40 million nutrition 'crusade' collapses without validating original ambitions

No legal proceedings

Peter Attia co-founded the Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI) with Gary Taubes, presented as a 'Manhattan Project' intended to overhaul nutrition science and notably test the carbohydrate-insulin hypothesis of obesity. The organisation raised more than 40 million dollars, but funded studies failed to provide the dramatic support expected for the hypothesis, disputes arose with researchers over scientific independence, and the organisation effectively dissolved. Attia had left NuSI in late 2015.

NuSI: annual remuneration of 727 754 dollars as president of non-profit organisation

No legal proceedings

NuSI's 2015 tax return recorded remuneration of 727 754 dollars for Peter Attia as president, in a year when the organisation's expenditure reached almost 8.9 million dollars and it was rapidly spending its funding. The remuneration level attracted criticism given the project's non-profit nature and subsequent difficulties.
