100% tariffs on Serbian and Bosnian goods, virtually freezing dialogue with Belgrade

No legal proceedings

The Haradinaj government increased customs duties on goods from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina to 100%, partly in response to Serbia's campaign against Kosovo joining Interpol. Haradinaj subsequently declared that the tariffs would remain until Belgrade recognised Kosovo, despite requests for their withdrawal from the European Union and United States.

'Fake veterans' affair: Public attacks on prosecutor Elez Blakaj and allegations of political pressure

No legal proceedings

After special prosecutor Elez Blakaj resigned while working on a major case concerning lists of alleged fake KLA veterans, Haradinaj publicly insulted him and disputed his allegations of pressure and threats. The Special Prosecution responded that it was not accountable to the prime minister, while local legal organisations described the episode as revealing a risk of political interference.

ICTY appeal: Acquittal partially overturned and retrial ordered because of witness intimidation climate

Acquitted / conviction overturned

The Appeals Chamber partially overturned the acquittals and ordered a retrial on six counts. It found that the Trial Chamber had not taken adequate steps to counter witness intimidation that had 'permeated the trial', particularly to obtain testimony from two potentially important witnesses.
