Opposition to net zero and statements disputing effect of British decarbonisation on global warming

No legal proceedings

Reform UK made the abandonment of several net zero policies a central part of its programme. Tice distinguishes the reality of certain climatic changes from questions about their causes, the extent of human influence and the costs of British policies. His critics argue that this rhetoric downplays the scientific consensus and the cumulative effect of emissions reductions. This is a controversy concerning climate policy and scientific communication, without any judicial finding.

Vince v Tice: defamation claim over X post classified as opinion; Dale Vince's appeal dismissed in 2026

Civil / administrative proceedings

The dispute arose from a Tice post referring to Vince's remarks about Hamas. In its preliminary determination of meaning and nature, the High Court found that an ordinary reader would understand the publication as an opinion and that its factual basis was indicated. Vince appealed; the Court of Appeal upheld this classification on 1 July 2026. The outcome favours Tice on the preliminary issue and must not be transformed into a final judgment on the truth of every underlying political allegation.

Britain Means Business: two £250,000 Reform UK donations examined in police investigation into source of funds

Investigation

The two transfers from Britain Means Business to Reform UK occurred in June 2024. Journalistic investigations showed that a payment of approximately £1 million from Fiona Cottrell preceded the donations and that the ultimate origin of some funds was being examined. Police indicated that the investigation concerned political financing rules. Sources report no arrest or charge against Tice and specify that routing a donation through a company is not in itself illegal. Reform UK and Tice deny any wrongdoing.

Tisun Investments: George Cottrell loan, Dubai property acquisition and £613,000 Reform UK donation reported in SARs

No legal proceedings

According to the press investigation, Tisun received approximately £78,100 from George Cottrell in December 2024, transferred funds linked to a Dubai property purchase and then donated £613,000 to Reform UK in January 2025. Tice explained the first transaction as a repaid bridging loan and the property transactions as resulting from a change in mortgage financing. Banks submitted suspicious activity reports (SARs) to the NCA because of the transaction profiles. SARs are compliance intelligence and do not establish criminal activity.

Quidnet and related companies: allegations of underpaid corporation tax disputed by Tice

Investigation

Tax Policy Associates and the press maintained that four companies controlled by Tice had incorrectly treated property income distributions from REITs for tax purposes and that a separate issue concerned withholding tax. Tice described the allegations as inaccurate and politically motivated, stating that the appropriate tax had been paid and that he would correct any demonstrated technical error. The selected sources establish neither tax fraud nor HMRC proceedings against him.

Response to Reform councillor's remarks about Nigerians: refusal to condemn specific wording explicitly

No legal proceedings

The controversial post was written by councillor Glenn Gibbins, not Tice. Reform UK suspended him pending an investigation. Questioned about the remarks, Tice avoided explicitly condemning the wording and denounced what he considered attempts to smear his party, while stating that he condemned inappropriate conduct. Tice's responsibility is limited to his public response and party governance.

Action against NCA and legal demand for Guardian information potentially identifying sources

Civil / administrative proceedings

Tice maintains that certain confidential financial information published in the press could only have come from a leak by an NCA official and is seeking to identify the source of the disclosure. A legal letter sent to the Guardian demanded information potentially leading to journalistic sources. The newspaper announced that it would oppose the request. At the verification date, no court had decided the merits of the alleged leak or ordered disclosure of sources.

Reform UK: shortcomings in candidate vetting under his leadership ahead of 2024 election

No legal proceedings

As Reform UK leader, Tice explained that the list had been published early to allow the party to conduct further checks and the press to help identify problems. Reform subsequently claimed that an external vetting provider had failed to deliver the expected service. Offensive remarks made by other candidates are not attributed to Tice; the controversy concerns party governance and the quality of candidate screening.
