2009 British arrest warrant and subsequent attempts under universal jurisdiction

No legal proceedings

In 2009, a British court issued an arrest warrant against Tzipi Livni following a complaint relating to her role during Operation Cast Lead in Gaza. Opposition to Nation-State Bill and dismissal by Netanyahu during coalition collapse

No legal proceedings

Livni opposed a version of the proposed Basic Law defining Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people, which she considered dangerous for democratic balance and equality. The dispute added to tensions with Netanyahu, who dismissed her and Yair Lapid in December 2014 before calling early elections.

Proposals for territorial transfers involving Israeli Arab towns and controversy over citizenship

No legal proceedings

During Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, Livni argued that establishing a Palestinian state would provide a national response to the Palestinian question while guaranteeing individual rights to Arab citizens of Israel. The Palestine Papers also showed that she had discussed transferring certain Israeli Arab towns to a future Palestinian state as part of territorial exchanges.
