37.5-hour working week: flagship proposal rejected 178–170 by Congress in 2025

No legal proceedings

Yolanda Díaz made reducing the statutory working week from 40 to 37.5 hours without a pay cut one of her principal projects. Despite an agreement with trade unions, the proposal failed to win employers' support, and Junts joined the PP and Vox. On 10 September 2025, rejection amendments passed by 178 votes to 170, sending the proposal back to the government.

"Palestina será libre desde el río hasta el mar": diplomatic crisis with Israel

No legal proceedings

Following Spain's announcement that it would recognise the Palestinian state, Yolanda Díaz ended a video message with the words "Palestina será libre, desde el río hasta el mar" (Palestine will be free, from the river to the sea). Israel's ambassador and subsequently its foreign minister denounced the phrase as a slogan calling for Israel's disappearance and demanded a response from the Spanish government.

Civil / administrative proceedings

Formation of Sumar: confrontation with Podemos and Irene Montero's exclusion from the 2023 candidate lists

No legal proceedings

The formation of Sumar as an electoral coalition of fifteen parties involved highly contentious negotiations with Podemos. Irene Montero was excluded from the candidate lists and Podemos denounced a personal veto, while the ranking of candidates left the established party in a substantially less dominant position than it had held within Unidas Podemos.

2022 labour reform: flagship legislation passed 175–174 thanks to an erroneous vote by a PP MP

No legal proceedings

The labour reform negotiated by Yolanda Díaz with trade unions and employers' organisations was ratified by Congress by 175 votes to 174 after two UPN MPs broke the expected voting agreement and a PP MP, Alberto Casero, mistakenly voted in favour. The incident triggered controversy over the validity of the procedure and opposition allegations of a "fix".
