4 July 2024: conviction appeal dismissed and permission to appeal sentence refused

Conviction (not final)

Hussain argued, among other things, that his rape conviction was inconsistent with acquittals on other counts and that the jury had generally rejected C1's account. The Court of Appeal rejected that argument: a jury could accept parts of testimony while having reasonable doubt on other counts. It confirmed that the rape verdict was safe. It also rejected his arguments concerning the seventeen-year sentence, including classification of the offence, use of alcohol to facilitate the acts and a request for credit for remand time spent in custody in another case. On 4 July 2024, his appeal against conviction was dismissed, and permission to appeal his other convictions and sentence was refused.

2002–2006 / 2023: rape and two sexual offences involving Girl A — seventeen years in prison

Conviction

The Court of Appeal stated that Hussain met C1/Girl A when she was 12. She described subsequent meetings during which she was given large quantities of alcohol. The jury found Hussain guilty of one rape and two counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child. The judge found that he had given the child large quantities of alcohol despite her age, had penetrated her mouth with his penis on multiple occasions and had raped her vaginally at least once. She also treated ejaculation, failure to use a condom and the use of a humiliating video to threaten C1 as aggravating factors; Hussain had been present and had laughed at what was being done to her. He was sentenced to seventeen years' imprisonment on 31 October 2023.

Separate case: extended remand in custody followed by acquittal

Acquitted / conviction overturned

The Court of Appeal stated that before his 2023 sentencing, Hussain had spent a significant period on remand awaiting trial in an entirely separate case and was subsequently acquitted. His defence asked for this period to be taken into account in reducing the seventeen-year sentence in Operation Lytton. Both the trial judge and the Court of Appeal refused the reduction. No guilt is attributed to Hussain in that separate case, in which he was acquitted.

2020: sentenced to twenty months, including for production of a Class B drug

Conviction

In its 2024 appeal judgement, the court stated that Hussain had received a total sentence of twenty months' imprisonment in 2020 for offences including production of a controlled Class B drug. Public research did not identify a reliable report listing all offences in that case; the record therefore retains only the fact and sentence expressly mentioned by the Court of Appeal.
