No legal proceedings

Rupert opposed former associate Rurik Göbel in a struggle for control of The Bridge Stellenbosch property development and a 2.3-billion-rand land transaction. Control of Richemont through enhanced voting rights shares and governance challenge

No legal proceedings

Richemont's dual-class share structure gives the Rupert family voting control far exceeding its economic ownership. Activist Bluebell challenged public shareholders' representation in 2022; in 2025, ISS recommended voting against the re-election of Johann and Anton Rupert, citing unequal voting rights and governance.

Calling "radical economic transformation" code for theft: public confrontation with ANC

No legal proceedings

In September 2017, Rupert said that "radical economic transformation", a political slogan then promoted by Jacob Zuma and his allies, was "just a code word for theft" and linked it to looting state coffers. The ANC responded by describing his remarks as flippant and opportunistic and placing them within the debate over inherited economic privilege.
