Former European parliamentary assistant position: Anticor complaint for embezzlement of public funds, forgery, use of forged documents and fraud

Allegations

Bardella was Jean-François Jalkh's parliamentary assistant between February and June 2015. Press investigations alleged that documents had subsequently been created or altered to demonstrate that this work was genuine, including a diary purchased later and a press review containing articles published after the relevant period. Anticor filed a complaint on 9 January 2026, citing possible offences of embezzlement of public funds, forgery, use of forged documents and fraud if the alleged facts were established.

Ukraine and NATO: departure from RN's pro-Russian legacy and renewed ambiguities in September 2026

No legal proceedings

In 2024, Bardella began describing Russia as a threat and supported Ukraine while setting red lines: no French troops and caution over weapons capable of striking deep inside Russian territory. He also abandoned an immediate withdrawal from NATO's integrated command while the war continued. In September 2026, a European tour was disrupted by statements from Louis Aliot announcing an end to French aid to Ukraine, forcing Bardella to clarify the RN's position.

2024 European election accounts: lengthy dispute over reimbursable expenses, with partial success on appeal

Civil / administrative proceedings

The CNCCFP approved the campaign accounts after adjustments and initially set reimbursement at €3,892,890. Bardella contested the exclusion of €235,034 in expenditure. After an initial judgment, the Paris Administrative Court of Appeal reinstated €66,544 in security costs and €62,035 in campaign bonuses in July 2026, increasing reimbursement to €4,044,934 while dismissing the remaining claims.

Civil / administrative proceedings

The European Parliament refused to authorise funding for François Paradol, Bardella's chief of staff at the RN, as a local parliamentary assistant, considering that it could not sufficiently verify the separation between his party work and parliamentary duties. Bardella and another MEP brought proceedings before the General Court of the European Union.

Investigation

The European Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation in 2026 into suspected fraud involving EU funds. More than €130,000 in "media training" financed between 2019 and 2021 by the Identity and Democracy group reportedly served primarily to prepare Bardella's media performances, when he was Marine Le Pen's main spokesperson ahead of the 2022 presidential election.

Bardella–Farage migration pact: agreement providing for return to France of migrants intercepted by United Kingdom

No legal proceedings

On 4 September 2026, Bardella signed a memorandum of understanding in Birmingham with Nigel Farage between the RN and Reform UK concerning Channel crossings. The version promoted by Farage would allow the United Kingdom to intercept boats departing France and return their passengers to France before removal to their countries of origin. The agreement sparked considerable controversy in France, including on the right, with opponents accusing Bardella of accepting a mechanism contrary to French interests and Marine Le Pen's longstanding policy.
