BBC Gaza documentary: official Hansard correction following inaccurate claim about programme commissioning

No legal proceedings

On 27 February 2025, following the withdrawal of the documentary Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone, Nandy told Parliament that it was not a BBC programme and had been commissioned by an external organisation. A Written Correction published on 4 March clarified that the programme had been commissioned by the BBC but produced by an independent production company. The official record distinguishes the original error from its formal correction.

Football regulator appointment: three breaches of Governance Code, including conflict of interest not declared by Nandy

No legal proceedings

David Kogan had donated £2 900 to Lisa Nandy's 2020 Labour leadership campaign. Following disclosure of the connection, Nandy recused herself from the final decision. In November 2025, the Commissioner for Public Appointments found three breaches of the Governance Code across the appointment process, including Nandy's failure to declare the conflict before selecting Kogan; the report considered that she had acted without awareness of it. Nandy apologised, and the Commissioner did not question Kogan's suitability for the position.

Criticism of BBC over Gaza in 2025: Peter Kosminsky accuses her of trying to 'bully' broadcaster

No legal proceedings

In July 2025, following several controversies over the BBC's Gaza coverage, Wolf Hall director Peter Kosminsky claimed that the Culture Secretary was attempting to 'bully' the organisation and its Director-General Tim Davie. The episode illustrates the tension between political accountability for the public broadcaster and editorial independence. It is a disputable public accusation, not a legal or administrative finding against Nandy.

2022 CWU picket-line visit despite Keir Starmer's frontbench discipline instruction

No legal proceedings

In August 2022, the Shadow Levelling Up Secretary joined CWU members on a picket line in Wigan. The action contrasted with Keir Starmer's instruction to frontbenchers not to appear on picket lines; Labour sources discussed whether permission or special treatment had been granted. The episode fuelled debate over party discipline and Labour's relationship with trade unions.

Scotland and Catalonia in 2020: comparison on tackling nationalism interpreted as support for Spanish repression

No legal proceedings

During the 2020 Labour leadership contest, Nandy referred to Spain and Catalonia when discussing strategies against nationalism she considered divisive. The SNP and other critics interpreted the comparison as an endorsement of Madrid's repressive response. Nandy maintained that her words had been deliberately distorted and recalled that she had condemned the Spanish government's brutality.

2020 trans pledge: signing text describing certain feminist groups as 'trans-exclusionary hate groups', followed by reservations about wording

No legal proceedings

During the Labour leadership campaign, Nandy signed the Labour Campaign for Trans Rights pledge, which described Woman's Place UK and LGB Alliance, among others, as trans-exclusionary hate groups and called for sanctions against transphobia. The wording prompted internal controversy over freedom of expression and sex-based rights. Nandy subsequently acknowledged that certain terms gave her 'pause for thought' and said she did not generally wish to ban organisations.

2020 Labour debate: attack on second Brexit referendum policy, described as an 'absolute disaster'

No legal proceedings

During a televised Labour leadership debate in February 2020, Nandy attributed a significant part of the party's electoral collapse in Leave-supporting constituencies to its second referendum policy. She directly challenged Keir Starmer over responsibility for that position. This was an internal political strategy controversy, with no judicial dimension.

2025 youth contract: 'cronyism' allegations involving My Life My Say and a former connection with her adviser, disputed by department

No legal proceedings

In 2025, the press examined a DCMS contract awarded to Savanta, which worked with My Life My Say. Harjeet Sahota, who became Lisa Nandy's special adviser, had previously been a trustee of the organisation before leaving that role. Opponents alleged 'cronyism'. DCMS stated that procurement rules had been followed and Sahota had recused himself from relevant matters. No official finding of favouritism attributable to Nandy was identified.
