Rhea was arrested by the NCB in September 2020 in a case concerning, among other matters, the procurement of cannabis for Sushant. The Bombay High Court granted her bail. The NCB maintained allegations in its charge sheet and proposed charges. Accounts belonging to Rhea, her brother and their mother had also been frozen; in April 2026, a Mumbai NDPS court ordered them unfrozen, noting that the mandatory confirmation of the freeze had not been obtained within the statutory deadline.

Allegations of abetment of suicide, controlling behaviour and financial misappropriation following Sushant Singh Rajput's death

Investigation

Following Sushant Singh Rajput's death, his father filed an FIR in Patna against Rhea Chakraborty for several alleged offences, including abetment of suicide and misappropriation of money. The Supreme Court upheld the transfer of the investigation to the CBI. In 2025, the CBI filed a closure report finding no foul play or criminal responsibility on Rhea's part in the death.
